(Orlando, Florida March 3rd, 2014) – After creating a strong buzz in a short period of time with the release of two critically acclaimed mix tapes, NIKO IS continues to refine his craft and is ready for prime time. This summer will see NIKO IS partnering with Javotti Media to release his first full length album, Brutus. In order to get the world properly prepared for this opus, today will see the release of the video for Ballon d’OR from NIKO IS third free mixtape, Good Blood. This project will initially be hosted at rapgenius.com and can also be downloaded at NIKO IS’ website, nikoismusic.com. It will be available for streaming at djbooth.net as well. For those fans who have been following NIKO IS’ rise from local Orlando MC to international mover and shaker, these new opportunities have been a long time coming and are overdue. For those not familiar with the repertoire of this brilliant artist, get ready to be pleasantly surprised and amazed.
NIKO IS was born Nikolai Paiva in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and moved to Central Florida at the age of seven. He spent his teenage years in Orlando, cultivating a distinct sound and style that draws heartily from multiple influences including South American rhythms, soul, jazz, down south trap and strong east coast lyricism. After relocating to Los Angeles following a trip back to Brazil, NIKO IS lost himself in the world of music and decided to pursue his passion full time. Upon moving back to Orlando, he linked up with long time producer and good friend, Thanks Joey, to craft two critically acclaimed mix tapes: 2012’s Chill Cosby and 2013’s The Other Side of the Velvet Rope. These projects made the radar of Central Florida’s own DJ Smallz of Southern Smoke fame, who immediately became a mentor and made NIKO IS and Thanks Joey a part of his Southern Smoke collective. Capitalizing on his buzz, NIKO IS has also collaborated with industry heavyweights like Action Bronson, Casey Veggies and Talib Kweli.
Good Blood arrives just in time for spring and firmly announces NIKO IS as a musical force to be reckoned with. Produced almost entirely by Thanks Joey, this project employs the lush sounds of NIKO IS’ native Brazil, as samples of Brazilian music are utilized throughout. The name NIKO IS is a conceptual idiom symbolizing the many different personas and energies that are reflected through his work. Good Blood showcases this to great affect.
“NIKO IS dot dot dot,” says NIKO IS. “I have so many sides of me. With my music, I like portraying that. I feel everybody’s just too one dimensional. People are more complex than that, so by being NIKO IS I always have a chance to portray a different side.”
NIKO IS the innovative, refreshingly brilliant artist that hip hop has been asking for. Good Blood makes that plain. Enjoy!
